Anti-Muslim tweets dangerous for our country
Guest columnists Johnna Malici, a Muslim American, and Melinda Menzer, a Jewish American and Furman English professor, collaborate on an opinion piece in The Greenville News about the troubling social media habits of President Donald Trump. In it, they draw comparisons to the hate-mongering that took place in Nazi Germany that fueled the Holocaust. While readers might think such a comparison is a stretch, Malici and Menzer say, “Trump and his collaborators are priming the masses into the normalization of hate, all through purposeful misinformation. As a result, Muslims, Jews, and other minority groups are experiencing serious repercussions … The dangers of his rhetoric are real and are affecting Americans and America every day.”
