Coming soon: A new look for the website

Furman University announced today that it will soon unveil a website redesign, with the first phase of the launch coming on Dec. 18 and the second phase beginning after the New Year.

The first phase will include the top-level pages of the six main areas of the website: About, Academics, Admissions, Tuition & Aid, Campus Life and Athletics. The university will begin rolling out academic department pages and other sites after Jan. 1, with the goal of having the entire website redesigned and moved into WordPress by the end of summer.

“Among the primary goals of the redesign is to reflect the Furman experience and demonstrate The Furman Advantage through rich stories, photography and videos,” said Furman Vice President for University Communications Tom Evelyn. “But we also wanted to make several behind-the-scenes and technical improvements, which will make the website easier for users to navigate.”

The website’s content will be moved from the Microsoft SharePoint content management system into WordPress, which will provide campus web editors greater ease and flexibility to update department pages. The accessibility for site users with disabilities will also be improved.

“The redesign is highly responsive, which means the experience for visitors using mobile devices will be improved significantly,” Evelyn said. “We will be conducting extensive testing of the redesign to ensure that the new site functions according to best practices.”
