Muslims ‘love this country,’ grapple with challenges

Akan Malici

President Trump’s Jan. 27 executive order to temporarily restrict entry to the United States from selected countries has spawned protests, created more fodder for news talk shows, and has many Americans wondering if we are betraying our core values. Paul Hyde of The Greenville News spoke to local Muslims about the order and what it means to them. Furman Politics and International Affairs professor Akan Malici was one of the three Hyde interviewed. Said Malici, “There is a lot of fear and anxiety in the Muslim community, not understanding why this is happening.” But Malici remains positive, saying, “There’s still much hope and faith this great country will find its way again. Much good is coming out of this.”
