Honoring the Real Heroes

Lt. Col. Kenneth Dwyer ’98 is a Special Forces officer who has been awarded the Silver Star Medal for valor in combat. He lost his left hand and left eye during a firefight in the Uruzgan Province of Afghanistan but he has kept moving forward, having been deployed back to Afghanistan, jumping out of airplanes while wearing a prosthetic left arm and making sure he can play a game of catch with his son.

When Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins played a July 3 game at the 12,500-seat stadium on Fort Bragg, they did so to honor service members like Lt. Col. Dwyer. MLB.com profiled Dwyer, his wife, Jennie ’97 and their family before the game.
