Music major Campbell selected for exchange program in Germany

|

Furman University student Logan Campbell of Easley has been selected among 75 students nationwide to participate in Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals, a program created to strengthen ties between Germany and the United States through citizen diplomacy.

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) is jointly funded by the United States Congress and the German Bundestag (lower house of Parliament), and in the United States, is overseen by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Established in 1983, the program was founded in celebration of the 300th anniversary of the first German immigration to the United States. Since its inception, more than 24,000 students have prepared themselves for success in an increasingly global world by participating in the CBYX program.

CBYX participants come from diverse backgrounds from across the United States. Academic merit, as well as motivation, curiosity and flexibility are components of a competitive application. Previous German language experience is not required. CBYX is dedicated to selecting students who represent the diversity of the United States.

For the year-long CBYX experience, Campbell will be placed with a German host family. In addition to receiving a monthly living stipend through CBYX, Campbell will be admitted to a German university with CBYX covering the cost of tuition, books and transportation. He will also participate in pre-departure training in the United States, orientation programs in Germany, meetings with United States and German government officials, cultural excursions to the German Bundestag and select German cities, and will take part in supplemental language training in his host community.

Campbell, a choral music education major at Furman, will return to campus following the program to finish out his senior year. His plan is to pursue graduate studies, possibly in Germany. The native Easley resident is a graduate of Wren High School in Piedmont.
