Over the past 10-15 years, a very limited number of summer research opportunities were extended to local high school students.  These short research experiences provide a chance for early research exposures for students with an interest in pursuing a STEM major/career and a strong interest in pursuing that major at Furman.  In recent years, Furman’s capacity to place high school students into research labs has decreased appreciably with an ever increasing number of Furman STEM majors seeking out undergraduate research opportunities.  Faculty are often taking on additional undergraduate students in their research lab to accommodate this large demand and are not able to extend a similar invitation to an interested HS student.

At this time, OIRS (the Office of Integrative Research in the Sciences) is no longer managing inquiries related to summer research experiences for HS students.  It is possible that on occassion, a STEM faculty member may be interested in working with a HS students but those arrangements will be handled on an individual basis and through direct communication with the faculty member.
