IACH to host Community Health Conversations
The Institute for the Advancement of Community Health at Furman University is excited to announce a new series of evening discussions focused on critical health issues impacting our local community.
The series, titled “Community Health Conversations,” will bring together community members, health experts and university faculty to foster dialogue and raise awareness around important health topics. All of the Tuesday evening sessions will be open to the public and free of charge, encouraging broad community participation.
The schedule of events is as follows:
- November 12: “The Building Blocks of Social Emotional Wellness.”
- January 14: “Navigating Climate, Heat, Pollutants and Green Spaces for Healthier Communities.”
- March 11: “Catalyzing Health Through Community Voice,” sponsored by Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.
Please join us on Tuesday, March 11 for a conversation with:
- Dr. Ken Kolb, Professor, Sociology Department, Furman University.
- Pastor Sean Dogan, Director Community Health, Bon Secours St. Francis Health System.
- Dr. Meredith Eiken, Internal Medicine-Pediatrics, Prisma Health.
- Rosa Gonzales, HEAL Board Member, Mental Health Therapist, Unity Health on Main.
- Dr. Melissa Fair, Community Action Director, Institute for the Advancement of Community Health.

IACH Executive Director Dr. Kerry Sease emphasized the importance of community engagement in health conversations. “Health is a shared responsibility. These talks are a critical part of building healthier communities by giving everyone a voice and access to valuable, evidence-based information,” she said. “By fostering dialogue between experts and community members, we can create stronger, more resilient neighborhoods that prioritize wellness for all.”
