The Clemens Angel Analyst Fellowship, the first of its kind among national liberal arts and sciences colleges, equips students for successful careers in angel investing, venture capital, private equity, or capital raises for their startup venture.

This 8-week transformational experience (non-credit), designed for up to fifteen students, will provide the skills, experience, and network to accelerate their learnings in early-stage venture investment.  Through facilitated discussions, exercises, case study, guest speakers, and mentoring, Fellows will learn VentureSouth’s signature due diligence framework to drive investment decisions.

Following the 8-week fellowship, Fellows will have the opportunity to apply and interview for two paid Analyst internship positions for the 2023-2024 academic year. Analysts will have the opportunity to apply learnings from the Fellowship to real-world startups that are currently fundraising from the VentureSouth Angel Network.

The Clemens Angel Analyst Fellowship is reserved ONLY for students enrolled full-time at Furman University and classified as a sophomore or junior for the 2022-2023 academic years (students classified as a freshmen and senior for the 2022-2023 academic year are not eligible for the Fellowship).

An ideal candidate for the Fellowship typically has a GPA of 3.5+, and is self-motivated, team oriented, creative, analytical, dependable and communicative. Additionally, candidates should have an interest in finance, problem solving and valuation of startup ventures.

The Fellowship is designed for any major and discipline, however, those who represent an analytical major typically demonstrate success (accounting, business administration, chemistry, computer science, economics, math, physics, etc.).

Prior to the start of the Fellowship, Fellows are required to possess a foundation of financial accounting terms, MS Excel modeling, and MS PowerPoint. Fellows admitted to the program will be provided resources to level up these foundational skills as well as the required reading, The Lean Startup by Eric Ries, over the summer (2022).

Selection for the Fellowship is competitive and therefore Fellows are required to attend ALL weekly sessions, prepare accordingly, and actively engage.
