Campus masking protocols, vaccination data

Dear Faculty and Staff,

We have been energized and encouraged by our moves toward pre-pandemic operations – including welcoming back faculty and staff and opening campus to the public. While it’s great to see our colleagues returning to campus, some after an extended period away, we want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our masking and distancing protocols.

The masking requirement indoors has not changed. Physical distancing (at least 6 feet) is still required indoors. Masks are still required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, inside any campus building with the following exceptions:

  • Students inside their assigned housing space. Masking is still required for all students when in common areas, hallways, stairwells and bathrooms in the residence halls.
  • Faculty and staff alone in their assigned office. Fully vaccinated faculty and staff who are alone in their assigned officemay now remove their masks without the requirement of having their door closed, provided that physical distancing is maintained.

We are all eager to get back to normal, but that is not possible (under the current CDC guidance) until more members of the Furman community have reported being vaccinated. The current vaccination rate among faculty and staff is insufficient to relax COVID protocols in a way that would achieve our goal of a complete and fulfilling campus experience with fewer or no COVID restrictions.

The COVID Dashboard now includes the vaccination status of our campus community. Currently, our students on campus have reported a much higher vaccination rate than our faculty and staff.

Students, faculty and staff may use as a resource for scheduling an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Faculty and staff who have received the complete dose of the COVID vaccination are strongly encouraged to share their vaccination record by emailing a copy of your vaccination card to humanresources@furman.eduThis information will not be shared or stored as part of personnel records, and no personnel actions will be taken based on whether employees have received the vaccine. Please submit only your vaccination record and do not include any medical information along with it.

If you have any questions, please email Be well.
