Spring 2024 Reading Circle – Mid-Career Teaching Enthusiasm Reboot

January 17 @ 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm

It’s not uncommon to feel a little less enthusiastic about teaching during the last weeks of the semester as demands crank up and time seems to slip away. If you are frequently wondering why students seem less engaged than pre-pandemic, are feeling less energetic about teaching in general (it happens!), or want to connect with colleagues to share teaching joys, we invite you to become a part of an upcoming mid-career cohort specifically for post-tenure or even more veteran colleagues.

Our first cohort opportunity will be a “choose your own adventure” reading circle on Ken Bain’s What the Best College Teachers Do OR Teaching at Its Best.  The FDC has several hard copies of Bain’s book to share with participants; both books are available freely online at the Duke Library.

The intent is for participants to read individually in December and then gather for a conversation to share community and insights from 2:30-3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17th in Duke Library 042.

If anyone cannot attend this session, an alternative date is scheduled for January 4 (contact Diane Boyd for more details).

Please register here for this opportunity for mid-career colleagues
