What is your favorite Engaged Living memory?

I really loved the Symposiarch Group that was set up through our engaged living program, where several freshmen would meet and eat with upper classmen in the Politics department. We would always spend hours talking at our weekly dinners, and there’s never a dull moment. It was also a great way for us freshmen to connect more with the upper classmen, which doesn’t always happen frequently enough.

Why did you apply to Engaged Living?

I was really interested in the idea of getting to live with a group of people who I was taking courses with. It felt like it would be a great way to form deeper friendships with people who I had common interests in, and serve as a good nexus between us. The two courses associated with the engaged living, FYW-1300 and POL-103, both seemed extremely interesting, and helpful for my GER and major requirements, so it seemed like the “engaged living” aspect was just a great bonus for courses I was already interested in and needed to take.

How did Engaged Living make an impact on your Furman experience?

It’s helped me forge strong bonds with many members of the Politics and International Affairs department, helped me get integrated into campus life very well, and served as a great introduction to the world of political thought.
