Engaged Living Community: Politics and the Human Soul

student spotlight

Major: Philosophy and English Literature

What else are you involved with on campus?

I am involved with philosophy club, a group for students who have a passion for philosophy to join. I am also involved with Tocqueville program, a program led by professors for discussion of political philosophy.

What is your favorite Engaged Living memory?

No best memory beats the readings we did and the discussions we had in class, from which I learned an amazing amount of knowledge about how to live, but also I learned how to conduct my work better academically, since the academic requirement is vigorous and challenging.

Why did you apply to Engaged Living?

I was attracted by the title of my program “Politics and Human Soul,” which I thought would be helpful for myself as I have had an interest in learning about politics and human nature for a long time.

How did Engaged Living make an impact on your Furman experience?

Since all the engaged living fellows are living together as a small community, it is possible for one to meet and make many friends who will have similar interests and pursuits in life. Two of my best friends I met thanks to the program. The professors who are responsible for the program is also one of the best in Furman. The reason I joined the Tocqueville Program and had a vibrant intellectual life on Furman is thanks to the recommendation of Dr. Storey and Mrs. Dr. Storey.
