Whether you’re pursuing a degree in sustainability science or just seeking a more sustainable lifestyle, there isn’t a specific background that guarantees you a spot in the Greenbelt Community. Our program is highly selective, with approximately 16 students joining our community each year. However, there are a set of minimum and recommended qualifications that you should meet to earn the full consideration of our application committee:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be in good academic standing.
  • Commit to enrollment and active participation in the Greenbelt Community academic program.
  • Commit to the Greenbelt Community living experience.
  • Complete the application before the deadline.

Recommended Qualifications

Take or plan to take a course in either earth and environmental sciences or sustainability science. Get involved in activities or student organizations related to sustainability. Though these are not required, applicants who have taken a class in one of these subjects or participated in activities related to sustainability will be given strong consideration.

Preference is given to rising sophomores although all applications will be considered.

Selection Process

Housing and Residence Life will notify applicants whether or not they have been offered a space in the Greenbelt Community. Applicants who are offered a space in the community will be asked to confirm an intention to accept that space with the Housing and Residence Life Office within a couple of days of notification of that offer.
