If you are interested in promoting diversity and inclusion at Furman University you should apply for a Diversity and Inclusion Mini-Grant.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee seeks mini-grant proposals that seek to address, promote or enhance one or more of these areas:
- Climate–how the Furman community creates a respectful, safe and supportive environment for all members—regardless of disability, gender identity, nationality, race, religion, socioeconomic background or sexual orientation. It is also the quality and extent of interaction between various groups and individuals across campus
- Access–how Furman provides equal opportunities for all members of its community
- Education–how members of Furman learn from one another, especially groups different than our own, rather than passing judgment on differences in values and belief
- Policy–the structures and rules at Furman that either support or hinder campus diversity and inclusion
- Assessment–how Furman is measuring knowledge, skills, attitudes and beliefs related to diversity and inclusion
Eligible initiatives include, but are not limited to, lectures, bringing in a speaker, training, workshops, outreach activities, conferences, research, or an educational resource. Any initiative that meets one of the more the above five criteria will be considered.
The Diversity and Inclusion Committee is now accepting proposals for Diversity and Inclusion Mini-grants for the Fall and Spring semesters. Students, faculty, and staff may apply for grants to support activities, CLPs, educational opportunities, and other programs that support diversity and inclusion in our community. Recipients may be individuals, a team or an organization. Since this program is newly expanded into the fall semester, applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis until our fall funds are exhausted. Grants can seek up to $500 in the fall.
If you would like to submit an application for funding in the Spring, you can also do so through the application link below and those will be reviewed prior to the start of the spring semester 2023. Spring grants can request up to $850.
For additional questions, please contact Andrew Womack, chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Mini-grants and Awards Subcommittee at andrew.womack@furman.edu.

Fall funds must be used before December 16, 2022 and Spring funds must be used before June 15, 2023 or they are forfeited. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee will review Fall applications and inform applicants of their status on a rolling basis.
