The Cothran Center is thrilled to offer Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for Furman alumni + friends and family.

MBSR will be taught by Dr. Meghan Slining, Ph.D., M.P.H. Meghan is an Associate Professor of Health Sciences at Furman with expertise in Public Health, Nutrition and Epidemiology. She completed her MBSR teacher training with The Mindfulness Center at Brown University and The Center for Mindfulness at University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

A partnership between the Cothran Center and Dr. Meghan Slining allows the Center to subsidize the cost of the course enabling Furman alumni + friends and family to enroll in MBSR for a significantly reduced rate of $100.

What is MBSR?

8-week evidence-based, participatory course that provides intensive training in mindfulness meditation and movement practices.

  • Learn tools to manage the pains and stresses of life
  • Cultivate present moment awareness
  • Change habitual stress-reactivity patterns

 

What to expect:

  • Orientation (1.5 hours, required for enrollment), scheduled for one week before class
  • Eight weekly classes, 2.5 hours each
  • Instruction in formal and informal MBSR meditation practices
  • Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
  • Structured group dialogue
  • One All-Day class on a Saturday
  • Daily home practice assignments
  • Online resource materials, including guided meditation recordings
  • The opportunity for one-on-one check-ins with the instructor throughout the course

 

FALL 2023 dates:

  • Mondays, 6:00-8:30 PM (ET) from October 2-November 20
  • All-Day Retreat, Saturday, November 11, 9:00-AM-4:30 PM (ET)
  • Required Orientation, Monday, September 25, 6:00-7:30 PM (ET)

 

What are the course details?

Because of the nature of the course (and the significantly reduced rate!) applicants must commit to attendance at all class sessions including the all-day intensive retreat.

 

How do I register?

You can register HERE .  Please note space is limited and registrants will be accommodated on a first come first served basis. Class sizes are limited to facilitate group connection and conversation.

Once/if the course becomes full, a waitlist will be maintained. If a space becomes available, the waitlist will be utilized in order. It is our hope to offer additional courses in the future!

In the spirit of generosity, scholarships are available to those who may be unable to participate otherwise.
