Applying to Bridges

Bridges to a Brighter Future at Furman University provides academic support and engagement for our students to prepare them for current and future challenges and triumphs. We provide Bridges Scholars with the knowledge, resources, guidance and confidence to graduate from high school, successfully plan to complete college, and enter the workplace equipped for success. In cooperation with Greenville County Schools and with community support, we offer year-round student programming for Bridges Scholars through their college graduation.

Qualifications

  • Current high school freshman
  • Academics – 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Family – 1st generation to complete college
  • Financial – qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • Disciplinary – case by case

  • Online application
  • Interview at Furman University or Furman 101 in Downtown Greenville
  • 3 recommendations – one academic
  • Official high school transcript
  • Photo
  • Essay

Timeline

  • January 9 – Applications open
  • January 23 – Applications close
  • Jauary 30th – All Supporting Documents Due (Transcript, Essay, and 3 Recommendations)
    • Note: Incomplete applications after January 23rd will not be considered.
  • February – Interviews begin at Furman University or Furman 101 in Downtown Greenville
  • March – New Bridges class announced
