Furman University’s Education Department acknowledges that our nation and communities face critical challenges and need caring, innovative, and skilled individuals to be part of the solution. Furman offers many options for students who wish to work with children and youth. Educational Studies is a non-licensure major that offers various tracks in teaching, learning, human services as well as Educational Policy. Current Furman students with questions about the Education Department should contact Dr. George Lipscomb, department chair, or should stop by the department in Hipp Hall.
Education faculty, in consultation with the Office of Graduate Studies can help interested students better understand pathways to become certified teachers. The Office of Graduate Studies also offers additional certification and graduate degree options in literacy, teaching English to second language learners, and school level leadership.
Through tailored guidance, innovative workshops, industry connections, faculty and campus collaborations, and a wealth of resources, we empower students to embark on their career journeys with confidence and help employers find top talent.
