Upsilon Pi Epsilon
Upsilon Pi Epsilon is an honor society founded in 1967 to recognize scholarship and professionalism in the Computing Sciences. In the 25 years since then, over 100 institutions of higher education around the world have established UPE chapters. It is the only international honor society in the Computing Sciences. UPE has been officially recognized by both the ACM and by the IEEE Computer Society.
Membership is by invitation only. Membership is invited based on scholarly and professional accomplishments in the Computer Sciences. If an invitation to join is declined, the nominee cannot be asked again.
Undergraduate students are eligible for invitation to join the Furman UPE chapter if:
- Their major is Computer Science
- Their GPA within their major meets a distinguished minimum
- Their overall GPA meets a distinguished minimum
- They have made significant progress towards a CS degree
Invitations to join are voted on by the full membership and extended in January of each year. The annual induction ceremony is held in early February.
