Learning to Live Better at LiveWell

In today’s world, it has become ever harder for the average person to achieve a solid standard of living. Our current modes of infrastructure do not prioritize peoples’ abilities to live happy, fulfilling lives. In the face of this reality, it is up to organizations like LiveWell Greenville to pick up the slack. From helping connect members of the Greenville community to healthy and affordable meals, to creating initiatives to make neighborhoods more walkable and allow students to get to school safer, to creating groups in which community members are given decision-making power, LiveWell Greenville is set on making sure that all of Greenville has an opportunity to live well.

My name is Ossian Quinn and I am a rising Senior from Rock Hill, SC. This Summer, I have spent my time as the Communications Fellow for LiveWell Greenville, where I have learned a lot about what it takes to make a community organization thrive. I have largely been helping out with social media communications, spending most of my time making graphics and reels for the Instagram page. I have also been going out and taking photos and videos of community events, such as a presentation given at the Furman Bridges for a Brighter Future program, and a school lunch pickup location in Greenville County. Attending events like these have given me a lot of insight into what goes into ensuring that our local community is being accommodated for and are given opportunities to live the best lives possible.

Perhaps the most valuable aspect of this Fellowship experience has been seeing the importance of community-based work. Without organizations like LiveWell and their various partners throughout the community, there would be so many resources and opportunities not being fulfilled for the citizens of Greenville, and our community would be much worse for it. Going forward, I will always look to be a part of a community supported organization to some extent, and I would confidently say that everyone else should do the same. Working with an organization like LiveWell is not only helpful for the community, but also greatly personally fulfilling.
