Nina Veas graduated from the Universidad Técnica Federico Santat Maria with a degree in chemical engineering. She pursued her Ph.D. in physical chemistry at Louisiana State University. She worked in the lab of Dr. Robert Nauman investigating the spectroscopy of photochromic compounds. After completing her doctorate, she spent two years as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Josef Michl at the University of Texas in Austin, TX. and Dr. Jeanne McHale at the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID.

After her postdoc with Dr. Hale, Nina was hired as an Assistant Professor of chemist at Coastal Carolina College where she led the effort to establish a chemistry program. In 1996 she left Coastal as an Associate Professor to join the Michelin Americas Research Center in Greenville, South Carolina. She worked at Michelin as a tire materials researcher until 2022. She is currently an adjunct professor in the chemistry department at Furman University where she teaches introductory courses and collaborates with Furman and Clemson faculty on research projects involving the spectroscopy of halogen bonding complexes and microplastics.

In addition to her work at Furman, Nina remains an active participant in ASTM International and the International Standards Organization in committees related to rubber, elastomers and rubber chemicals. She is the 2024 Chair Electd and serves as the communications officer in the Western Carolinas Section of the American Chemical Society.
