Michael Bressler is a Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Furman University. He earned his B.A. from Ohio State University and his A.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan. His areas of expertise are in International Relations and Comparative Politics. He teaches courses on World Politics, International Relations, International Peace & Security, and the Politics of Russia. He is the editor of and a contributing author to the book Understanding Contemporary Russia. His current research is in the field of American Foreign Policy. With the Vietnam and Iraq wars as case studies, he is examining how members of Congress have sought to influence the course and content of presidential war policy. He is the winner of Furman’s 2005 Meritorious Teaching Award. Students of his have gone on to do graduate work or attend law school at American University, Cambridge, Chicago, Cornell, Denver, Duke, George Washington University, Georgetown, Georgia, Harvard, Illinois, the London School of Economics, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oxford, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tufts, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Yale.
