Izumi Tokunaga joined Furman in 1998 and has been teaching various levels of Japanese language courses. In 2012 and 2013 she served as co-director of May X Japan and lead the group of students to Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Okinawa. She also taught at Clemson University and at the Hokkaido International Foundation in Japan. Her interest is Japanese language and culture, business Japanese and heritage Japanese.

Philosophy

Izumi Tokunaga’s goal is to support students to communicate effectively in Japanese and to expose students to the richness of Japanese cultures. Therefore, she encourages and supports study abroad experiences to all students regardless of their discipline as an enrichment experience.
