Why Furman? I thought about where I wanted to be in four years. I wanted to study away, do undergraduate research, and work multiple internships. More importantly, however, I wanted to have good friends, grow in community, make an impact, and leave a legacy. My conversations with Furman students, staff, and faculty indicated not only that I could have all of that and more at Furman, but that they also shared those goals. That's why I chose Furman.

Which professor has made the biggest impact on you while at Furman, and why? Dr. Nelsen has made a massive impact on me during my time at Furman. Initially, I attended his Thursday morning prayer group. Soon, however, he invited me to join other students for Saturday Pizza Nights at his house. Eventually, Dr. Nelsen became a mentor for me. He has helped guide me academically, personally and professionally ever since. He led my study away trip to Brussels, helped get me internships in DC and New York, and is now advising me about graduate school and post-college life.

What is your favorite Furman memory? Swimming in the fountains on LDOC (last day of classes).

What is your favorite thing spot/activity to do in Greenville? Junto Coffee is a great place to study on the weekend.

In my spare time I like to... Go hiking, write poetry, play soccer.

I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. My parents taught me at a young age to cherish moments at home with family, but also to always seek out experiences that take me out of my comfort zone and expose me to new perspectives. Today, these roots are reflected in my love of Auburn football and Bayern Munich soccer, banana pudding and Peruvian cuisine, coming home and traveling abroad. My life is dichotomous, but I believe I am all the better for it.

In his own words...

"Furman has encouraged me to explore my interests from international relations to public policy with one-on-one relationships with professors, enabled me to expand my mind and change my perspective with transformative classes such as political thought, and empowered me to work in real political setting through an internship with the Belgian-African Chamber of Commerce in Brussels. Thanks to the Politics and International Affairs department at Furman, I have become a better political scientist, a more considerate thinker, and a more well-rounded person."
