While raising three children, I returned to school to complete my education with an MPA from the University of Georgia. An internship with the City of Greenville OMB led to a position as research associate with the Institute for Public Policy and Administration at the University of Charleston. In that capacity, I evaluated and acted as a consultant to federally funded social welfare programs in Greenville and other areas of SC and worked with inner-city neighborhoods to bring resources into their communities. During my final 18 months in that position, I was interim director of Within Reach, a community partnership under the City of Greenville. For a few years after coming to Furman in 1998, I continued to work with program evaluation, most notably the evaluation of South Carolina's welfare reform under TANF performed by the Urban Institute.
