Family Weekend: Center for Engaged Learning sessions

Faculty/student collaborative research, internships, and study away are three experience-based learning opportunities that allow students to apply what they learn in the classroom and gain skills valued by employers and graduate/professional schools. On Saturday, October 3rd you will have an opportunity to meet the people who make each of these experiences possible for your Furman student – and hear from other students who themselves have recently completed one or many of these formative experiences!

From 9 – 11:30 a.m. Join us at Furman’s annual Study Away Fair to learn about upcoming Study Away opportunities during MayX 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027. Connect with the Furman faculty and staff members leading upcoming study away programs and sign up to receive more information about programs that interest you. Find more on Furman’s Study Away programs, scholarships, application deadlines, and requirements online at studyaway.furman.edu.

Directions to the Study Away Fair: when entering the 2nd level of the Trone Student Center from the direction of the James B. Duke library and Daniel Chapel, you will proceed through the atrium and turn right after the information desk. Proceed halfway down the hallway, the Study Away Fair will take place in the Watkins Room on the left.

From 10:30 – 11:15 a.m. Representatives from each area of engaged learning (study away, research, internships) along with student participants will discuss the range of experiences available to Furman students, the process for obtaining them, and the opportunity for students to apply for funding.

Directions to the Engaged Learning Panel: when entering the 2nd level of the Trone Student Center from the direction of the James B. Duke library and Daniel Chapel, you will proceed through the atrium and turn to the left, passing the student lounge area.  Proceed up a small flight of stairs and head straight.  The entrance to the Burgiss Theater will be right in front of you, you can choose to enter the fixed seating from one of two aisles.  This event will immediately follow the President’s Welcome Remarks, so please allow time for setup and audience transitions.

From 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Collaborative research and internships are two main components of Furman’s experience-based learning opportunities. Students will stand with their posters and will be ready to discuss their experiences. Passersby may stop and talk with students at their leisure. This allows for unique and rich dialogue with the students.

Directions to the Research & Internships Posters: when entering the 2nd level of the Trone Student Center from the direction of the James B. Duke library and Daniel Chapel, you will proceed through the atrium and turn right after the information desk. Proceed down the hallway, the Research & Internship posters will be on display on either side of that corridor.
