Roy Oliver McClain, a 1941 Furman University alumnus from Donalds, South Carolina, received five Bronze Stars for his service in World War II. McClain was an Army chaplain who participated in six amphibious landings in the Pacific Theater. In observance of Veteran’s Day, Charles Jones of The Christian Index wrote a tribute to the late Baptist pastor whose wartime experience spurred his fight for civil rights years after the conflict. The story was also published in The Times and Democrat.
