The Community Remembrance Project was established in 2019 by a cohort of Diversity Leaders Initiative fellows of The Riley Institute at Furman University. The group worked in concert with the Equal Justice Initiative of Montgomery, Alabama, to document lynchings and incidents of racial terror in Greenville County and to honor the victims of the atrocities. CRP co-chairs CRP Ellen Stevenson and Feliccia Smith are featured in a Greenville Journal article. They explain that the CRP’s efforts in restorative truth-telling is a necessary but painful step in promoting racial reconciliation and justice.
