More and more colleges and universities are embracing the idea of engaged learning and encouraging their students to pursue internships during the summer and throughout the academic year. In a column for the Greenville Journal, Furman history professor Courtney Tollison writes about how internships and other forms of engaged learning can be highly influential, and explains why Furman was among the first higher education institutions to push its students to experience the world outside the classroom.
