In January, PARMA Recordings released the first disc in a long-term project by Furman Professor of Percussion Omar Carmenates. “The John Psathas Percussion Project” is the culmination of several years’ work and over 100 hours of recording. Performers on the project include Carmenates, Furman Professor of Music Theory and Technology Dan Koppelman, several Furman students and alumni, and other professionals from across the country. Carmenates’ “labor of love” has drawn the attention of Gramophone magazine’s Guy Rickards, who comments on the “crack percussion ensemble” assembled by Carmenates and his “superb” solo playing.
