On the eve of what the Trump administration termed “Liberation Day,” FOX Carolina anchor Justin Dougherty spoke with Furman University’ Brent Nelsen about tariffs and how they might unfold. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, said the tariffs, which were announced April 2, will likely discourage imports to the U.S. and raise prices for manufacturers and consumers. Nelsen also commented on whether tariffs will be effective in reshoring manufacturing back to the U.S., one of the administration’s goals with the tariff policy in addition to raising revenue to offset proposed tax cuts.
