Nelsen surveys field for SC Governor on WYFF
Brent Nelsen, Department of Politics and International Affairs
Furman University’s Brent Nelsen spoke with WYFF News 4 reporter Nate Stanley about the five candidates entering the ring for South Carolina governor. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, said that since South Carolina is a red state, it’s not likely any strong Democratic Party candidates will emerge. More prospects may enter the field for the republican primary, but he noted many of the current candidates are part of the Governor Henry McMaster “establishment.” Nelsen said in the months ahead of the primary, candidates will be jockeying for position in terms of their alignment with Trump policies and ideology.
