Furman University’s Brent Nelsen, a regular guest on FOX Carolina’s “You Decide” segment, appeared with host Justin Dougherty to discuss the GOP debate in Milwaukee set for Wednesday, Aug. 23.

Dougherty asked if Donald Trump would appear on the debate stage and whether his presence might hinge on recent indictments. Nelsen, a politics and international affairs professor, said Trump’s lead in the polls suggests he has nothing to gain by participating. Dougherty also asked Nelsen about how candidates can stand out in a short amount of time. Nelsen said a debate “presents opportunities for failure as well as for success.” A pithy statement, coming across as someone who is forceful but not overly forceful, and no “brain freeze” moments are critical for a solid debate outcome, he said. Nelsen also speculated on the tack Tim Scott and Nikki Haley might pursue.

The coverage also appeared on FOX 29 WFLX  and WYFF interviewed Nelsen the day of the debate.
