Furman University’s Brent Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, joined FOX Carolina’s coverage of former President Donald Trump and his Georgia grand jury indictment. Nelsen said the case is similar to the federal charge levied against Trump for attempting to overturn the 2020 election. But this latest one involves more people and more “moving pieces.” Nelsen also speculated on Trump’s possible defense strategies and whether a fourth indictment matters to his base.

“People are getting confused now,” Nelsen said. “There’s so much legal trouble around Trump that it’s all been factored in, and this is just one more indictment. I don’t think that it’s going to make an impact politically, at least not at this point, maybe later on when we get into the trials, things change a little bit. But for right now, I think people have factored in all of this into their view of Donald Trump.”
