FOX Carolina News Anchor Justin Dougherty spoke with Furman University’s Brent Nelsen about the Nov. 4 elections and the longest ever government shutdown. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, commented how the economy drives people to the polls, and the democrats’ strategy of propping up centrist candidates in key races like those in Virginia and New Jersey. Nelsen also touched on how the outcome in 2025 might impact the 2026 midterms, and why democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani was able to win the day in the New York City mayoral race.
