Furman University’s Brent Nelsen joined Justin Dougherty of FOX Carolina on the station’s “You Decide” segment. Nelsen, a professor of politics and international affairs, commented on the delicate line GOP candidates must walk as they jockey for position in the Republican primaries. As it stands, former President Donald Trump leads the pack. Eventually, opposing candidates will have to speak out against Trump, said Nelsen who believes they don’t want to risk alienating voters early on. “There will come a time … when the major candidates will have to flip. They’re going to have to turn a switch and are going to have to attack the former president. Otherwise, they’ll have no chance at all,” Nelsen said.
