Furman University’s Brent Nelsen spoke to FOX Carolina’s Justin Dougherty after the House of Representatives passed a spending bill Dec. 20 to avert a government shutdown. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, commented on the confluence of a lame duck Congress and presidency and the dynamics at play with President-elect Trump and Elon Musk in the interim. Nelsen also remarked on how the passage of the bill, which was rejected by 34 republican lawmakers, hints at the difficulty House Republicans will face under a new administration. The bill has since passed the Senate and was signed by President Biden to keep the government running through March 14, 2025.
