Furman University’s Brent Nelsen, a regular contributor on FOX Carolina News, unravels the nuances of redistricting, or the practice of redrawing congressional and state legislative districts post-census to reflect population changes. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, spoke with FOX Carolina anchor Justin Dougherty about the “hyper partisan” nature of redistricting mid-decade to impact 2026 midterm elections. In Texas, for example, the state legislature hopes to gain five seats in the House, effectively keeping the Republican Party in the driver’s seat. As a retaliatory measure, California is redrawing its boundaries to capture more seats for the Democratic Party.
