Local media sources cover ribbon-cutting for Timmons Arena
Several news sources covered the unveiling of the newly renovated Timmons Arena on the campus of Furman University. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place Monday, Aug. 25, and showcased the $40 million renovation made possible through the generosity of donors. The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for student engagement, alumni connections, external events and partnerships with the greater Greenville community. FOX Carolina previewed the 4 p.m. ceremony here and aired additional coverage of the open house following the ceremony including comments from Women’s Basketball Head Coach Pierre Curtis, President Elizabeth Davis and Men’s Basketball Head Coach Bob Richey who said, “it’s something to be proud of.”
In evening broadcasts about the arena from WYFF News 4, Furman’s Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Jason Donnelly went on record about the scope for the new facility as a gathering place for other sports beyond basketball, student events, alumni activities, concerts and more. In other WYFF coverage, Rick Timmons offered his gratitude to Furman for honoring the legacy of his parents, among the original donors of Timmons Arena when it first opened in 1997.
Earlier, WSPA 7News toured the revamped facility with Richey who highlighted the new sound, lighting and other amenities that will ignite an enhanced fan experience. The Greenville News covered the ribbon-cutting and shared a video clip including reactions from Curtis, Richey, Davis and Furman basketball players, Raina McGowens and Ben VanderWal. The Daytona Beach News-Journal picked up The Greenville News story.
