Hecimovich’s new book subject of podcast
A new book by Gregg Hecimovich, a Furman University professor of English, is the subject of a podcast by Tavis Smiley, talk show host and author. “The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts: The True Story of the Bondwoman’s Narrative,” explores the author responsible for the first known novel by a Black woman. “The Bondwoman’s Narrative” was written by Hannah Crafts, and nearly 150 years later, was published by Henry Louis Gates of Harvard University. Hecimovich discovers the true identity of Crafts to be Hannah Bond, and through two decades of research, tells her story and the stories of those in her circle before America’s slide into the Civil War.
