Furman University alumnus Phillip Prince, aka “the geomodels guy” on YouTube, studies landslides for a living as part of Asheville, North Carolina’s Appalachian Landscape Consultants. He crafted a 28-minute video on YouTube to help people understand the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene, which became Tropical Storm Helene. The video went viral, netting nearly 530,000 views. Prince, a 2004 Earth and environmental sciences graduate, spoke to reporter Greg Parlier of Mountain Xpress. He said his goal is to build models of what happened with Helene to help people be more prepared for the next super storm.
