Furman University’s Danielle Vinson was quoted in Newsweek (via MSN.com) in the wake of host Joy Reid’s departure from “TheReidOut,” a political commentary show that aired on MSNBC. Vinson, a professor of politics and international affairs, said the network has seen a drop in viewership since the November election and suggested that democrats decided to scale back their consumption of political news for “their own sanity.” Vinson also said Reid’s exit had little to do with her being a vocal critic of Donald Trump and more to do with new leadership and strategy at the network. She added that the move likely does not signal a major change in the way MSNBC will cover politics going forward.
