Amy Wood of WSPA 7News sat down with Andrew Predmore, executive director of The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities, to discuss how Furman University is tackling sustainability challenges both on campus and in the broader community. Predmore, who spoke to Wood ahead of the Sustainability Summit held alongside the BMW Charity Pro-Am, touched on Furman’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral, the solar farm, the Furman Farm, Shi Institute Fellows, and the Sustainability Leadership Initiative.

“There’s an increasing focus on supporting the Upstate and the state of South Carolina as it moves toward sustainability,” Predmore said. “Growth can be good, but it comes with a downside, and so that’s where sustainability comes into play. How can we start to make and do things more efficiently so we can still grow, but where we are not damaging the systems that make this place both beautiful and functional?”
