Furman’s Epright named research director for Health Sciences Center at Prisma Health

Furman University’s Carmela Epright has been named research director for the Health Sciences Center at Prisma Health. While the role is new for the philosophy professor, the relationship with Prisma Health is longstanding. Epright has forged a partnership with Prisma since 2000. Her latest post involves working with research directors from Prisma’s partner institutions (Clemson University, Clemson University School of Nursing, University of South Carolina, USC Arnold School of Public Health, and USC School of Medicine) to promote collaborative research and curriculum programing.

Epright’s focus goes beyond the fundamental sciences where she incorporates the arts, social sciences and humanities, in an approach that encourages a more holistic view of wellness and care. Learn more in a Prisma Health Research Update.

Epright’s career includes 24 years’ teaching as a member of the Department of Philosophy. She has dedicated her career to medical ethics in both academic and clinical contexts. She served a postdoc position in the psychiatry department at Dartmouth and a clinical professorship of neuropsychiatry and behavioral sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine (Columbia). She holds master’s and doctoral degrees from Loyola University.
