Furman University’s Darren Hick, an assistant professor of philosophy, doesn’t mince words when it comes to students using AI tools like ChatGPT for assignments. He spoke to Diane Lee of WSPA 7News about the technology capable of churning out essays in mere seconds. “We always thought [the technology] was just over the horizon, and always just over the horizon, and last year it arrived, and we weren’t ready for it,” he said. “If we don’t get used to what plagiarism looks like now, then, yeah, more and more is going to sneak by.”
