Furman Department of Music presents ‘Sounds of Summer’ lakeside concert series

The Furman Department of Music’s long-running lakeside concert series “Sounds of Summer” gets underway Thursday, May 29, at 7:30 p.m. in the amphitheater on campus with a concert by the Lakeside Concert Band led by Sue Samuels, director of bands. Ten concerts in the series will present a cross section of music including big band, jazz, contemporary and traditional band and orchestral favorites.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday, May 29-July 31, and are free and open to the public. Bring a chair, picnic, blanket, friends and family to a Greenville tradition more than 50 years in the making. The schedule follows:

May 29 – Lakeside Concert Band, “Summer Lovin’” with the Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble

June 5 – Carolina Youth Symphony

June 12 – Poinsett Winds

June 19 – The Greenville Jazz Collective

June 26 – Lakeside Concert Band, “Let Freedom Ring” with the Greenville Chorale and a fireworks display

July 3 – 100th Army Band

July 10 – Lakeside Concert Band, “A Night at the Movies”

July 17 – Matt Olson Jazz Quartet – An Evening of Jazz with Matt Olson and Friends

July 24 – Lakeside Concert Band, “Give My Regards to Broadway”

July 31 – Lakeside Concert Band, “Our Favorite Things”
