Three Furman University communication studies majors were awarded $5,000 total in scholarships from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association (SCBA) Educational Foundation.

The SCBA Educational Foundation was established in 1982 to provide grants, scholarships and endowments for South Carolina colleges and universities offering journalism and broadcast-related studies. Its annual $2,000 Wally Mullinax Scholarship went to Lexia Gianopoulos ’26, student director for the Furman University News Channel.

Dixon Massingill ’26 and Sindey Lyn ’26 each received $1,500 from a new scholarship established by the SCBA. Massingill is a broadcasting student and Paladins quarterback who helps with FUNC’s sports programming and Lyn is the social media manager for The Paladin newspaper.

“Our faculty are excited about continued partnership with the SC Broadcasters Association, and that the foundation has recognized outstanding student achievement in broadcasting here at Furman,” said Mac McArthur, professor and chair of the communication studies department. “Lexia, Dixon and Sidney are all talented students exploring vibrant professional pathways in communication studies and their experiences will be amplified by these honors.”
