Furman alumnus Steve Grant ’80 receives S.C.’s highest civilian honor
Furman University political science alumnus Steve Grant ’80 has received the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor. The award, given at the discretion of the governor, recognizes extraordinary achievement and service to the community and state. In 2012, Grant, captain of Furman Baseball 1978-1980, established Chris and Kelly’s HOPE Foundation, which is dedicated to providing financial support to programs treating teens and young adults battling substance abuse and addiction. The organization is named for Grant’s two sons, both of whom died due to accidental drug overdose.
