In a CNBC interview, Finland President Alexander Stubb spoke to a reporter about President Donald Trump’s arrival to the White House and what it means for Europe. Stubb, a 1993 alumnus of Furman University, commented on the importance of free speech, drawing from readings from an American Political Thought course he took at Furman. He also conceded that while White House messaging isn’t always presented as diplomatically as many would prefer, he agrees with the administration that Europe needs to become more self-reliant with regard to defense and should shore up its defense and security spending.
