Furman University education alumna Rachel Sease ’14 first met the proprietors of Blue Moon Books in Canton, North Carolina, when she taught the owners’ son in her 4th grade class at Bethel Elementary. Years later, she left the teaching profession and took a position with a local Methodist congregation. A chance meeting with the owners of Blue Moon Books and Wall Street Books led to Sease’s employment with the same. Now, she is owner of Blue Moon Books in Canton, a small town west of Asheville. In a story appearing in Smoky Mountain News, Sease talks about the power of books to unite, build empathy and underscore our common humanity.
