Department of Music presents ‘Sounds of Summer’ lakeside concert series

The Furman Department of Music’s long-running lakeside concert series “Sounds of Summer” gets underway Thursday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the amphitheater on campus with a concert by the Lakeside Concert Band led by Sue Samuels, director of bands. Ten concerts in the series will present a cross section of music including big band, jazz, international, contemporary and traditional band and orchestra favorites.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. each Thursday, May 30-Aug. 1 and are free and open to the public. Bring a chair, picnic, blanket, friends and family to a Greenville tradition more than 50 years in the making. A schedule follows:

June 6 – Carolina Youth Symphony

June 13 – Poinsett Winds

June 20 – The Greenville Jazz Collective

June 27 – Lakeside Concert Band with Greenville Chorale and professional fireworks display

July 4 – Lakeside Concert Band with PaintJam speed painters and JDew auctioneer

July 11 – Spartanburg Jazz Ensemble

July 18 – Matt Olson Jazz Quartet

July 25 – Lakeside Concert Band and the Foothills Brass Band

August 1 – Lakeside Concert Band
